Our Story
The idea of starting a non-profit had been a dream of Tony’s for nearly a decade before we finally incorporated in 2017. From 2014-2017, Tony was performing at more and more children’s events; he even started booking kids concert series in many of the bigger cities around the MD, DC, and VA area. One day while driving home after a show in Northern Virginia, Tony started realized that downtown Martinsburg needed to have a children’s concert series in our town square too. But not only did we need a concert series, we needed more art programs and events for the community. Beth had been working with Tony on Tony M. Music and on one of their morning conversations, Tony and Beth started brainstorming - they imagined bigger than they thought they were ever capable of achieving, but we decided right then and there - we were going to do it. Even if it took a long time we would work to bring meaningful arts events, activities, and classes geared to kids and families to the Martinsburg, WV area. Now, it just needed a name.
Tony had been performing under the name, Tony M. Music for several years at this point so it made sense for name recognition in Martinsburg and Berkeley County to name the foundation, Tony M. Music and Arts Foundation. After the first Children’s Concert Series and seeing how much support we had from the community and how many businesses and other non-profits we partnered with, it was clear that we had started something very special for our community.
Since our incorporation, we have expanded our After School Arts Program to service students in Berkeley Co., Jefferson Co., and Ohio Co. Schools, WV. We have hosted the Martinsburg Rocks! Kids Summer Entertainment Series every summer. We’ve offered Cross Country programs at 3 intermediate schools in Berkeley County, WV and are looking forward to expanding to all 6 intermediate schools in the 2023/2024 school year. And we are very much excited about piloting our Chords Program (more information to come) in the fall of 2024!
